As I predicted in my post yesterday on the Dubai alleged rape case, Marte Deborah Dalelv, the young Norwegian woman at the center of the storm, has been shown leniency. The Dubai authorities announced this morning she has been pardoned and thus will not have to serve out her highly controversial 16-month imprisonment term. See here for the New York Daily News's account. She had been found guilty of drinking alcohol and having sex outside marriage – charges that were leveled against her after she accused a Sudanese-born male colleague of rape.
